How to Create a Television Room
The family living room should be designed for comfort and relaxation, a place to chat and watch television. With careful planning, you can create a practical and attractive interior, where the television set needn’t dominate the scheme.
CONTEMPORARY
With a modern setting, a television screen with always work well. The only consideration to remember is to avoid allowing it to take over the room.
Colourful fabrics and interesting artworks will help to distract the eye and where possible, use built in storage to hide away DVDs and videos. A comfortable, well positioned sofa is essential for viewing and entertaining. Perhaps include a chair or two on casters, which can be moved to face the television when necessary.
*TIP* A modular L-shaped sofa works well for a contemporary family room.
TRADITIONAL
Try to avoid making the television the focal point in a traditional room, instead keep the original idea of the fireplace as the focal piece. Tuck the television away in a bay window or recess so that it doesn’t impose too much on the desired effect of the scheme. Sofas and chairs on casters can be easily manoeuvred to face the television when desired. For children and extra guests, a foot stool or pouffe is a good solution. Baskets are an attractive and efficient way to store away any DVDs and videos.
*TIP* An L-shaped room layout can help to ensure the fireplace remains the focus of the room.
Also, paint a bespoke TV unit to match the scheme so that it blends in with the room.
