April Hamilton & Alexander Joseph lighting at Decorex 2019
4 October 2019
We at April Hamilton are super excited to be attending Decorex 2019, especially as we have designed a floor lamp collaboratively with Alexander Joseph lighting and produced Capricorn, a gorgeous nickel floor lamp, with hand blown orb and tie dipped tassel
Decorex billed as the most prestigious UK event for interior design professionals, this year’s exhibition takes place from 6th to 9th October, and has moved to Kensington, Olympia. The four-day event is a great chance to see beautiful products, explore the latest design trends, meet like-minded people and get inspired.
Top tips for a new designers at Decorex?
Wear comfy shoes and a smile! It can be overwhelming, so allow a whole day and take your time, get chatting to suppliers, brands and designers that catch your eye. Make contacts and follow them up afterwards. With so much to look at, to ensure you don’t come home with a blurry confusion of designs, leaflets and faces, have a system in place to keep track of which product relates to which supplier. Taking photos of the items you like as well as a picture of the stand can help you keep everything straight. And make sure you allow time to visit the smaller, up-and-coming companies in the Foundations area. It’s slightly off the beaten track, but this is where you’ll find inspiring new designers who will bring something different to the bigger brands who are there year in year out!
I have met and worked with some lovely suppliers, 25 years on, it’s a fabulous event to catch up on their new collections, some our personal favourites are

We have featured these suppliers in many of our projects as they produce such lovely pieces not only by seasoned artists, but up and coming talent too… our Palma project was a delight and thanks to Trowbridge April Hamilton made it look stunning

It’s great to see Ian Makin have made the decision to change all of the natural 100% cotton yarns that they source to either recycled or certified organic.
Of course, they have a surplus of yarn to use up and some fabrics still in stock, putting them in landfill would totally defeat the object! But they do hope that this new direction for their business will give us all a renewed confidence in sustainability

April Hamilton are looking forward to seeing the new launch of Zoffany’s AW19 fabrics, the colours look vibrant and adaptable, apparently inspired by art, history and travel
And lastly who could really resist these delightful accessories in gold from one of our all-time favourite Ecco trading, don’t be fooled into thinking they could be considered a little Kitsch, these bad boys are measure just over a metre high, so will impact any interior – let’s see we are using them on our shoot…

So whether you are brand new to Decorex or a seasoned visitor, enjoy the vibrancy, variety and sheer showmanship of the whole show
