Romantic Lighting and Inspiration for Valentines Day
09 February 2021With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I’ll inspire you to pack your interiors with some romance - think soft lighting, textured touches, and elements to charm all five senses, so you can look forward to a romantic evening at home. There’s no reason to despair because getting your home interiors ready for a romantic evening is easier than you might think. It all starts with taking all five senses into consideration while focusing on creating a warm ambience courtesy of romantic lighting. Whether you choose to spruce up your living room, dining room and bedroom, it all starts with a few basic elements.

First, you’ll want to make sure you have the right lighting in place. Ambient lighting is soft, doesn’t create shadows, and is often connected to a dimming system. It’s essential for creating warmth and depth in a room. Taken together, this creates ambience and sets the right mood for the evening. Ambient lighting or mood lights, in the form of a table lamp or floor lamp will help. Choose a lower wattage bulb - as this will help set soft, flattering light. Porta Romana and Heathfield are always great places to start in the decorative lighting department.
To accompany and complement your ambient lighting, consider starting a cosy fire or lighting some candles. After all, lighting can be layered to achieve balance. To strike the right balance, avoid lighting only one corner of the room, and similarly avoid lighting the entire room altogether! Rather, aim to softly liven up the space in a balanced, soft style.

For an extra treat, take a look at these luxury scented essential oil candles from NEOM Organics or discover a rich fragranced candle like the Ences Mystique by Dior, which boasts an intense and mysterious scent, suggestive of woody notes. The infusion creates an alluring atmosphere! Adding fragrances to your eve will also help create memories.
Luxurious textures and throws will add extra appeal under moody lighting so why not stock up on a few richly-textured pieces? Here’s a selection of the softest cashmere throws from Oyuna and if you’re in a gifting mood, take a look at the exquisite textile collection available at Hermes. I also recommend browsing through the Blissful Bed Linen collection at The White Company: because indulging in Egyptian cotton is a fabulous idea, year-round!
Finally, add some other thoughtful touches with a bottle of champagne: Perrier-Jouët or some iconic pink bubbles by Laurent-Perrier Rosé, perhaps? Some luxury Belgian truffles from Godiva or the Neuhaus collection currently available at Harrods. A memorable Valentine’s Day at home is certainly possible. Simply combine the elements enlisted here to woo all five senses. With an emphasis on setting the right lighting to create mood and ambience - you’re ready for a special night at home with your special someone.
