My brief : Create a sumptuous country home we can enjoy when we are in the UK from our main home in Switzerland, make it soft and soulful. Luxury Interior design doesn't generally include any type of building works, that's why we at April Hamilton are architectural designers as we not only include remodelling to the fullest extend, but bathrooms, kitchens and luxury joinery in addition to a full luxury interior design service, so we welcomed the challenge of this particular project as some parts dated back to the 17th century and we have been fortunate to work on both grade I and II listed buildings in conservation areas, which provides the client with the comfort of knowing we are an experienced design company in specialist area.
The project needed some remedial works to the building such as the original floors required sanding and resealing to produce the beautiful oak flooring you see and the kitchen needed extra bespoke storage, along with a revamped bathroom. The rest fell into the luxury interior design category which is always the more aesthetically pleasing with more immediate results. The living room was soft and soulful with crème linens; hand finished interlined curtains, dressed from polished chrome poles and textured embroidered cushions. Polished oak furniture struck just the right note the clients wanted to achieve. Whilst I exposed much of the original oak flooring some rooms, such as the living room and bedrooms called for something more sumptuous, so I opted for Jacaranda carpets, which are seriously luxurious and a go - to for the team at April Hamilton. Accessories play an enormously important role within any luxury interior and the necessary cohesive element that binds the scheme together, from a well chosen cushion, to a set of decorative books or cleverly placed objet d'art.
The decorating was a little challenging due to the light changes and the amount of greenery surrounding the property, which tended to give the colours a green hue, so with careful planning we were able to mute the colours and blend them seamlessly into the interiors, providing the sense of serenity we wanted for the fabrics, furniture and soft furnishings to rest against, resulting in the soft and soulful interior the clients originally briefed us on.
